As you can probably tell from my excessive use of "!" in the title we LOVE Travemünde!!
I am not very good with words. I do much better with pictures but I want to try to use both today.
For me Travemünde was like taking part of the movie cheaper by the dozen (The old one.. not Steve Martin.) or Bells on their toes. You remember the swimming part where they are all in their modest long swimsuits? Now add Some like it hot and I felt a good mixture of that. It hardly even looks like that, but I just was giddy pretending I was in those movies! Oh I loved every second of this trip! Our little four-some all loved it!
The train ride was 32 euros for all four of us round trip and it was an hour and twenty minute ride to the Baltic sea. It is a tiny town with a fisherman feel. But once you got to the beach it is just magical!
All of us could not saying "Ah I love this!"
There was a LOT of picture taking, a lot of smiles, a lot of music and great company. The perfect combo!
We started out with eating a calzone from one of the many stands along the street looking out towards the water. Yums!
When we finally got enough of just staring at the beautiful beach we ventured out to feel it under our toesies. It tickled. Perfect because the whole experience tickled.
After I walked around taking pictures of random old people that had some major class, I saw a man talking to Matt, Brady and Bailee at our spot on the beach I walked over thinking it was a family friend. Don't ask me why.... were in a tiny village in Germany..
It was a man who spoke no English trying to tell us it costs 2.90 per person to just lay on the sand. Oh Europe..
I being fed up was a little rude.. I said in German, so.... (I wanted to start it with "So you're telling me"but I couldn't translate it fast enough.) ALL these people have paid 2.90 to lay on the beach?" He looks at me so confused why I would even ask that and yes. "Ja."
Ya right.
You'll see how hard that is to believe when you see the pictures. It was a Sunny saturday... aka CROWDED.
Since we didnt want to pay 10+ euros just to lay down so I asked him where we could lay down for free and he said it was two docks down. Basically the end of the beach haha so silly.
But it was still fantastic and did not sway our mood!
We all laid down and were out in 5.Two hours later we woke up feeling so rested.
Then we took turns swimming in the baltic!
First thing I did was scream at the top of my lungs.. "HEY MADDIE!!!!! WHERE ARE YOU???? I AM HERE! I MISS YOU! HURRY HOME!!!! OK SEE YA!" Felt good.
The water was FREEZING and there were jelly fish in front of you every 3 steps. We guessed they didn't sting because no one seemed to be freaking out.. But they were sure cool and the little ones were so cute!
(We learned later at church some do sting but they are the red ones and we didn't see any red ones only white. Thank heavens.)
It was hard but Matt and I went all the way under! Pretended it was the polar bear plunge. (Bachelor addicts) It felt so good! And I literally did feel physically closer to Maddie! Weird I know but I did.
We got to play frisbee next to the big outdoor concert. SO fun. It was just a big open field and open concert. So fun!
After we walked around the whole town and got bratwurst and fries! Then topped it off with delicious crepes and ate them on the grass at the concert.
Great performances let me tell ya...
Frieda Gold was a real hit.
Liebe ist meine Rebellion. That's her Album name. haha.
We left by her second song.
I liked the atmosphere though. If you take out all the beer every age was drinking, it was such a family environment. All these parents knew all the songs, and were dancing and there were even a ton of very old people. They were so into it too! Pretty cool. We left at nine and it was still light! That is one of my favorite things about this place.
Finally, what youve been waiting for: PICS!
