Hamburg is so much more than I could've hoped for in just this short week weve been here and cannot wait to see what the rest of the 7 weeks brings us!
A few things I know about Hamburg so far.
-It is rainy.
-It has holidays where every one dresses up as a colorful hippy and gets drunk. By everyone I meant everyone. Age 90 - age 13.
-There is St. Paulis.
-There is a street for the prostitutes.
-There is a street for the transvestites.
-There are some amazing apartment buildings like I've never seen before.
-People here love their city. More than Berlin.
-They pronounce it here in da northern side.. Hamburch.
-The most famous place to eat has terrible food and everyone knows it. Yet its a "must eat."
-The city center is a lake.
-Their are no historic sites in Hamburg so the mayor, in hopes to bring more tourist attraction, built himself a monument. The Elbphilharmonie. A concert hall. It is a beautiful, glass, tall and expensive building overlooking the harbor. The project began in 2007 with plans to be up and running in 2 years. And as I said above.. it was expensive. So it is still in the process and has no potential finishing date. haha remind you of the bridge in Mondsee?
But I love this place already. Especially the hat lady we met today. What a gem. She sells "My fair lady" hats for the famous horse races here in Hamburg. She also had THE most beautiful dog (sorry Sammy and Bella) I've ever seen. Not to mention she was one week away from getting her rescue license. So cool. Her name was Momo and I got a laugh out of hat lady when I said I had read "Momo." At least that class was good for something. She had fantastic English and black shiny hair. Her shop is located on the "Gay and lesbian pride" street. Or at least thats what we suspected with the millions of rainbow flags and the delightful gay and lesbian only book store I stumbled into.
They really do have a street for everything in Hamburg. More to come I'm sure.
Here are some pics so far.
